Flow Stewardism — Quick Guide

This dashboard simulates a system-dynamics model of an economy with environmental, demographic, and monetary feedbacks. Adjust policy parameters and explore how variables evolve from 2024 to 2100.

☰ Sidebar

  • Click the hamburger button (top-left) to show or hide the sidebar.
  • Parameters — Four sliders control the policy inputs:
    • UBI – Universal Basic Income level (0 – 3)
    • Target Emissions – Emission cap target (1 – 100)
    • Education Policy – Education investment multiplier (0.1 – 2)
    • Demurrage – Currency holding cost rate (0.1 – 5)
  • Each tab has its own sidebar section with variable dropdowns and options.

📈 2D Plot

  • Plots any state or flow variable over time (2024–2100).
  • Primary Variable (blue line) and optional Compare Variable (orange, right Y-axis).
  • Flow variables (prefixed with ⓕ) can also be selected.
  • Dashed grey line = base run (default parameters). Solid = modified run.
  • Glow effect highlights the modified lines.

🌐 3D Plot

  • Plots two variables against each other over time in a 3D scatter.
  • Use Hide State Variables checkbox to show only flow variables.
  • Rotate the plot by clicking and dragging.

👥 Population

  • Shows four age cohorts (0–19, 20–39, 40–59, 60+) plus total population.
  • Bar chart (default) shows values at year 2100.
  • Check Shaded Area Chart to see cohorts evolve through time.

📊 Compare Simulations

  • Set sliders to desired values, then click Save Current Run to store a snapshot.
  • Adjust sliders to new values and save again — repeat as many times as you like.
  • All saved runs are overlaid on one chart with unique colors.
  • Choose which variable to plot from the dropdown.
  • Delete individual runs with the × button, or use Clear All Runs.

🔀 Sweep Trail

  • When Sweep Trail is checked (top-right), each slider change saves a faded trail on 2D and 3D plots.
  • Trails fade from blue (oldest) to red (newest), up to 16 history steps.
  • Click Clear to remove all sweep trails.

Tips

  • Hover over any chart element to see exact values in a tooltip.
  • Use Plotly’s built-in toolbar (top-right of each chart) to zoom, pan, or download a PNG.
  • The model uses a fixed-step RK4 solver (dt = 0.1) matching the original Minsky specification.
